Next week, the yearly Dutch Joomladays will be held in Nieuwegein - The Netherlands. As always, the organization has done it's best to get a really exciting program together. Besides regulars like Henk van Cann (organizer previous Joomladays), Johan Janssens (Joomla 1.5 architect), and Wilco Jansen (Core team and development coordinator), there are also some people who are new to me though I have worked online with some for years.

As always, there are both Dutch and English sessions. One of the exciting sessions I'm looking forward to is the talk about Joomla 1.6, for which an alpha will be released soon.

It's also a great to meet people, both the people that I work with throughout the year and users of Joomla. It's a great place for me to talk to fellow global moderators, since two of them are Dutch. A great way to start planning the immediate future.

There are still some tickets available, they can be booked at joomladays.nl or joomladays.nl/en/ if you are not speaking any Dutch.

JDevTools; the first steps.

At the moment I'm sitting in a train going home to after a short break in the south.  The train ride is 5 hours and the lack of internet gives me a good opportunity to concentrate a little on getting stuff done on JDevTools.

For those who don't know, JDevTools is going to be an awesome set of tools to help developers create components easier. It's also my summer of code project, and right now it's not too much besides a hello world, a good base and a lot of ideas. What it will be though, is a way to automize most of the tasks connected with creating a component for example helping to create the mcv file structure and boilerplate code.

Louis Landry and I have been working on the Joomla 1.6 Menu Manager refactoring for a little while now and it's in a reasonable state to preview some of the new features.  I've assembled a series of rough screenshots in this PDF: joomla_1.6_menu_manager_alpha_preview.pdf (268 kb).

This is a series of five slides that highlight several new features in the Menu Manager itself and others that will translate across all core components.  Please note that this is a preview of active development.  Some features and the user interface still need work, so just keep that in mind when viewing the document.  This is just a preview :)

Webinar for New Bug Squad Members

This morning we did a webinar for new Bug Squad members using our new WebEx account. The webinar covers the processes that we use to track and resolve Joomla! bugs. Although geared toward JBS members, it might be of interest to anyone in the community who wants to know more about how the bug tracking process works and, more importantly, how they can help fix bugs.

Many people assume that you have to be a programmer to be in the Bug Squad. But, as this webinar makes clear, two of the three major tasks that we do (working with Open issues and testing Pending issues) do not involve any programming at all. So anyone who has a good working knowledge of Joomla! can contribute and is welcome!

You can view the webinar on line by clicking here. There is also a Wiki article with more information about the webinar.

Multilingual CiviCRM: Inheriting Joomla!’s Language

One of the features that was requested by CiviCRM users was the ability to inherit the language selected in the CMS hosting the given CiviCRM instance – and I’m happy to report that CiviCRM just gained this functionality (for Joomla!-hosted CiviCRM installs).
